Samina Ghurki of the PPP assumes a reserved seat as an MNA.

ISLAMABAD: Samina Khalid Ghurki, the party's MNA on reserved seats, was notified by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday, increasing the number of seats held by the PPP in the National Assembly.

An ECP announcement states that Ms. Ghurki was elected as an MNA on the Punjabi women's reserved seats.

The PPP's reserve seat total, which is determined by a party's general seats, went up by one following the victory of Makhdoom Tahir Rasheedud Din, the party's nominee, in last week's by-election from NA-171 (Rahim Yar Khan).

Ms. Ghurki is the president of the women's section of the PPP Punjab branch and comes from a Lahore political family.

She was a federal minister in the past.
